Wheeler Peak

John and I loved to backpack when we first got married, but we took a long break once we had kids. This was our first mountain climb with the whole crew! We took the Wheeler Peak via Williams Lake trail out of Taos Ski Valley. It was supposed to be a 5 hour hike, but we finished in about 9.... We all had a great time, and were so proud of what we were able to do as a family.

Angel Fire

Our 'acclimation day' was spent hiking in Angel Fire. There is a crazy mountain bike course on the ski slopes, with hiking trails mixed in. We hiked about 2 miles of the Enlightenment Trail, and were rewarded with a great view of Wheeler Peak. The birch trees were bright yellow, and the weather was perfect.

Amarillo

On our way out to New Mexico, we stopped at Palo Duro Canyon to hike the Lighthouse Trail. It's about a 6 mile hike, and is mostly flat until the very end. There's a pretty steep climb to get up to the Lighthouse, but the views were worth it!

On our way out of town, we stopped at Cadillac Ranch and let the kids paint the cars. They got a kick out of it!
